Eddie Morgan and Jerry Holt
have told me that once the Oklahoma Department of Corrections comes
down on your case they will never let up, and this applies to personnel
as well as prisoners. Give them a reason to retaliate and that retaliation
will be relentless.
This has certainly been Jerry’s experience for the last 25 years
since he escaped from Oklahoma State Penitentiary in 1985. The DOC called
for a trial hoping he’d receive the maximum eight years, but he
was given the minimum amount of two years. In the aftermath of the escape
and subsequent inquiry by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation,
staff members were disciplined and the Warden and Security Major both
lost their positions.
